What is the Current Procedures Carryover Feature?

Answer: The Current Procedures Carryover Feature automatically populates CPT codes, diagnosis codes, modifiers, units, and comments from previous patient notes into new notes. This helps save time, reduce errors, and ensure consistent documentation.

How do I enable the Current Procedures Carryover Feature?

Answer: To enable this feature:

  1. Log into your EHR account.
  2. Go to Preferences > EMR Preferences.
  3. Check the box for Current Procedures Carry Over.
  4. Select one of the carryover options:
    • Note Type-Specific Carry Over
    • Last Note Carry Over
    • Provider-Specific Carry Over

What are the available carryover options, and how do they differ?

Answer: To enable this feature:

  • Last Note Carry Over: Pulls procedure details from the patient’s most recent note.
  • Provider-Specific Carry Over: Pulls details only if the previous note was created by the same provider.
  • Note Type-Specific Carry Over: Pulls details from the most recent note of the same type (e.g., Progress Note, Follow-Up Note). This is also dependent on the providers default note format (e.g., Provider’s Default Note Format is Visit Note X, it will pull procedure details from the patient’s most recent note Visit Note X).

What actions trigger the Current Procedures Carryover?

Answer: The feature is activated during:

  • Move to Exam Room: When transitioning the patient to the exam room.
  • Create New Note: When initiating a new patient note.

Where can I view the carried-over procedure details?

Answer: You can view the carried-over data in:

  • Individual Patient Notes: Automatically pre-filled into the Current Procedures field.
  • View All Notes: A summary of all notes, including those with carried-over data.

What are the requirements for each carryover option to work?

Answer:

  • Last Note Carry Over: The patient must have a previous note with procedure data.
  • Provider-Specific Carry Over: The patient must have a previous note with procedure data created by the same provider.
  • Note Type-Specific Carry Over: The patient must have a previous note of the same type with procedure data.

Can I change the carryover option after enabling the feature?

Answer: Yes. You can adjust the carryover option at any time by navigating to Preferences > EMR Preferences and selecting a different option.

Does the feature work for all note types?

Answer: Yes, as long as the selected carryover option matches the note type (e.g., Note Type-Specific Carry Over requires a previous note of the same type).

What happens if the patient doesn’t have a previous note with procedure data?

Answer: If no qualifying previous note exists, the Current Procedures field in the new note will remain empty. You will need to manually enter the details.

Can multiple providers use this feature simultaneously?

Answer: Yes, the feature is available to all practice users who enable it in their preferences. However, the Provider-Specific Carry Over option applies only to notes created by the same provider.

How does this feature improve clinical workflows?

Answer: By automating the carryover of recurring procedure details:

  • It reduces manual data entry.
  • It minimizes errors.
  • It ensures consistent documentation across all notes.

Who should I contact if the feature is not working as expected?

Answer: If you experience issues with the feature:

  • Verify that it is enabled under Preferences > EMR Preferences.
  • Ensure the patient has qualifying previous notes.
  • Contact your Senior Solutions Engineer for further assistance.
