Modifier Defaults (Procedure Code Modifiers)

ADMINISTRATION → BILLING SETUP → MODIFIER DEFAULTS

STEPS

  1. To add a new modifier, select Add Modifier, then enter the 2-digit modifier and the description
  2. Enter 100 if the fee is the same with the modifier, or a percentage to increase or decrease the fee
  3. Enable “Display Alert” if applicable – See NOTES below
  4. Once saved, modifiers are now available on the modifier dropdown menu when creating claims on the CMS 1500 claim form
  5. To edit an existing Modifier, select the modifier number, make your changes , and select “save”

NOTES

  • From this submenu, you can enter any modifiers that are used regularly. A modifier is a two digit code that is added to a procedure code to provide additional information about the billed procedure. The modifiers can then be set up to multiply or reduce the fee when applicable.
  • From the submenu, you can also add a display alert to a modifier by checking this box, if this is enabled, the system will notify you if it thinks you need a modifier added to a procedure.
