| Re: | Expanded Payment Options with Stripe |
Items in This Release
- ACH Direct Debit payments
- Apple Pay and Google Pay support
- Stripe Payment Dashboard
We’re excited to introduce expanded payment options across the Patient Portal, Check-In Module, and EHR, designed to streamline patient payments, reduce front-desk workload, and improve pre-visit copay collection.
Patients can now pay their copay using Stripe’s ACH Direct Debit, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, making it easier to complete payments digitally before their visit or at the time of check-in. These options complement existing card payments and offer greater convenience for both patients and staff.
Key Enhancements
- Seamless Onboarding
Stripe provides a self-service onboarding experience, allowing practices to complete setup quickly without manual coordination. - Enhanced Payment Visibility (Stripe Dashboard)
Payment activity—including statuses, refunds, payouts, tax details, and transaction logs—is tracked through Stripe and automatically reflected in the EHR, keeping payment workflows centralized. - Expanded Payment Methods
Patients can pay copays using ACH Direct Debit, Apple Pay, and Google Pay via Stripe. Apple Pay and Google Pay appear automatically for patients using compatible devices and browsers.
Why Stripe Is a Better Payment Platform
Stripe replaces many of the limitations of traditional payment processors by providing a faster, more flexible, and more transparent payment infrastructure:
- Faster setup
Self-service onboarding allows practices to begin accepting payments within minutes instead of days or weeks. - More ways for patients to pay
Support for ACH Direct Debit, Apple Pay, and Google Pay in addition to existing card payments. - Better financial visibility
Real-time payment status, payouts, refunds, disputes, tax data, and transaction history are tracked directly within the EHR. - Lower processing costs
ACH Direct Debit offers a cost-effective alternative to credit card transactions. - Improved patient experience
Digital wallet payments reduce typing and speed up checkout.
Payment Platform Feature Comparison
| Features | Stripe | GPI /TSYS |
|---|---|---|
| Onboarding Experience | Fully self-service onboarding, with most standard accounts ready to accept payments within minutes. | Traditional onboarding takes time and may require coordination with a provider representative. |
| Terminal Setup Flexibility | Supports multiple configurations within the same location. Not tied to a single user or device. | Configuration may be tied to specific users or devices. |
| Payment Dashboard | Real-time visibility into payments, payouts, refunds, disputes, tax details, and transaction activity — directly within the EHR. | With limited reporting and external management tools. |
| Payout Visibility | Clear payout status and timing available through the Stripe Dashboard. | Limited payout visibility depending on setup. |
| Dispute Management | Built-in dispute tracking with clear status updates. | Dispute handling typically less centralized. |
| Tax & Compliance Support | Supports tax-related reporting, automated tax collection. | Tax reporting often requires additional coordination or external processes. |
| Payment Logs & Reporting | Detailed payment logs available for reconciliation and auditing. | Access to detailed transaction logs varies. |
| Additional Payment Methods | Native support for Apple Pay, and Google Pay in addition to cards. Wallets appear automatically on supported devices. | Other payment methods may require additional setup and configuration. |
How It Works
- Available payment methods are displayed automatically during Patient Portal payments and Check-In, based on the patient’s device and browser.
- Apple Pay and Google Pay appear only on supported devices—no additional setup is required by the practice.
- Payments are securely processed through Stripe.
- Payment statuses are automatically updated in the EHR and reflected in billing and reporting workflows.
